Kadampa Meditation Centre Vancouver
Kadampa Meditation Centre Vancouver is a not-for-profit organisation whose aim is to create peace and harmony within our world. Our East Van Temple provides a comfortable and relaxed environment in which people can discover the benefits of meditation and modern Buddhism for themselves. Everybody is welcome!
3 Study Programs
Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche, founder of the New Kadampa Tradition, has designed 3 unique Study Programs, which consist of the systematic study and practise of new Kadampa Buddhism and are especially suited to people of this modern world.
General Program (GP)
Foundation Program (FP)
Teacher Training Program (TTP)
GENERAL PROGRAM (GP)
The General Program (GP) is open to everyone regardless of previous experience or background. These classes provide a basic introduction to meditation and Buddha’s teachings that are suitable for beginners. The purpose of these classes is to help you to gain personal experience of inner peace, overcome daily problems, and find real happiness from within your own mind. GP includes all our walk-in classes and workshops.
FOUNDATION PROGRAM (FP)
The Foundation Program (FP) is designed for those who wish to deepen their understanding and experience of Kadampa Buddhism through a systematic study of six texts by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche. See more info about our Vancouver Foundation Program, and our West Vancouver Foundation Program.
TEACHER TRAINING PROGRAM (TTP)
The Teacher Training Program (TTP) is designed for those who want to train as qualified New Kadampa Tradition Teachers. In addition to completing the study of fourteen texts of Sutra and Tantra, including the six texts studied on the Foundation Program, students are required to observe certain commitments with regard to behaviour and way of life, and to complete a number of meditation retreats each year. Read more about our Teacher Training Program here.
Gen Kelsang Sanden is a Canadian Buddhist monk, and the Resident Teacher of Kadampa Meditation Centre Vancouver. He has been a long time student of Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, the founder of the New Kadampa Tradition. He is well loved for his compassion, sense of humour and the clarity of his teachings.
Gen Sanden is the main teacher at KMC Vancouver, leading guided retreats, Empowerments, Weekend courses as well as many weekly classes. Gen Sanden also teaches the Foundation study program.
KMC Vancouver is fortunate to have inspiring and experienced practitioners who teach drop-in meditation classes, and half day and full day courses. Our teachers engage in study and train in one of our extensive Study Programs: the Teacher Training Program or the Foundation Program.
Kadampa Meditation Centre is run by the kindness of volunteers. People like you, volunteer their time to provide all of the facilities the centre offers, including a full range of Buddhist study and meditation programs throughout the year.
Volunteering offers a special opportunity to:
▪ Put the teachings and meditations into practice directly
▪ Meet and work alongside people from all walks of life
▪ Contribute to the success of activities the profits of which are dedicated to public benefit through the International Temples Fund.
The Kadampa Meditation Centre Buddhist shop is an excellent resource for books on Buddhism, ritual items, and accessories. We are affiliated with Tharpa Publications, a non-profit corporation that publishes books on Buddhism and meditation by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso.
Hours: The shop is open 30 minutes before and after classes.
You can order a full range of Buddhist art, cds, books and downloads, online at Tharpa Publications. www.Tharpa.com/ca
