Kadampa Meditation Centre Vancouver

Kadampa Meditation Centre Vancouver is a Canadian registered charity whose aim is to create peace and harmony within our world, through providing Kadampa Buddhist teachings and instruction on meditation. Through meditation we can develop inner peace improve our human nature and good qualities. There can be no world peace without our establishing inner peace in our hearts. Our East Van Temple provides a comfortable and relaxed environment in which people can discover the benefits of meditation and modern Buddhism for themselves. Everybody is welcome!

3 Study Programs

Following the design of Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche, the founder of the New Kadampa Tradition, we teach 3 unique Study Programs, which consist of the systematic study and practise of new Kadampa Buddhism a presentation of Buddha’s teachings especially suited to people of this modern world which can be practiced by anybody who wishes.

GENERAL PROGRAM (GP)

The General Program (GP) is open to everyone regardless of previous experience or background. These classes provide a basic introduction to meditation and Buddha’s teachings that are suitable for beginners. The purpose of these classes is to help you to gain personal experience of inner peace, overcome daily problems, and find real happiness from within your own mind.  GP includes all our walk-in classes and workshops.

FOUNDATION PROGRAM (FP)

The Foundation Program (FP) is designed for those who wish to deepen their understanding and experience of Kadampa Buddhism through a systematic study of six texts by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche.  See more info about our Vancouver Foundation Program, and our West Vancouver Foundation Program.

TEACHER TRAINING PROGRAM (TTP)

The Teacher Training Program (TTP) is designed for those who want to train as qualified New Kadampa Tradition Teachers. In addition to completing the study of fourteen texts of Sutra and Tantra, including the six texts studied on the Foundation Program, students are required to observe certain commitments with regard to behaviour and way of life, and to complete a number of meditation retreats each year. Kadampa Meditation Centre is run by the kindness of volunteers. People like you, volunteer their time to provide all of the facilities the centre offers, including a full range of Buddhist study and meditation programs throughout the year.

Buddhist Bookshop

The Kadampa Meditation Centre Buddhist shop is an excellent resource for books on Buddhism, ritual items, and accessories. We are affiliated with Tharpa Publications, a non-profit corporation that publishes books on Buddhism and meditation by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso.

Hours: 
The shop is open 30 minutes before and after classes.
