Western Canada Dharma Celebration 2022
The Western Canada Dharma Celebration is an annual gathering of Kadampa Buddhist Centres in western Canada. This year, it will be taught by Gen-la Kelsang Khyenrab, the New Kadampa Tradition’s National Spiritual Director for Canada.
Gen-la Khyenrab is an internationally renowned teacher and Kadampa Buddhist monk who is greatly admired throughout the world for his powerful teachings, his wisdom, as well as his pure example of humility and loving-kindness. We are extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to receive teachings directly from him.
This weekend celebration is open to everyone and is ideal for those looking for an inspiring, enjoyable, and practical explanation of Buddhist teachings and meditation.
It includes an empowerment, teachings, guided meditations and prayers. In between sessions there is time to rest and relax in the peaceful meditation space and community room.
This Year’s Theme
With all the problems appearing in the world right now it’s easy to become discouraged, anxious or fearful.
In this year’s Celebration we will find practical solutions to problems that seem unsolvable. Rather than feeling discouraged by all the suffering and pain we see around us, and within us, Buddhist teachings offer us scientific methods to understand the root source of our problems and to develop the capacity of our mind for real positive change.
During the weekend, Gen-la will grant the blessing empowerment of Medicine Buddha, the embodiment of the healing energy of all enlightened beings.
It is said that by relying upon Medicine Buddha sincerely, living beings in these impure times can be cured of heavy physical and mental disease, and find release from the internal pain of the three poisons: attachment also called uncontrolled desire, anger and ignorance. They can also receive protection from many other dangers and obstacles. By practicing the meditations on Medicine Buddha sincerely we receive a special power of body, speech and mind which we can then use to help others. How wonderful!
Gen-la will also give teachings from How to Solve Our Human Problems. In this famous text, Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche explains how in our busy world, our experiences of happiness are fleeting and short-lived, while inner peace eludes us completely. Our negative states of mind, such as uncontrolled desire and anger create endless problems for ourselves and others, and prevent us from fulfilling our deepest wishes. Buddha’s teachings on the Four Noble Truths offer a clear and simple solution, guiding us to an oasis of peace within our hearts.
