November: Dealing with Difficult Emotions

5-week series
COST:  $15 per class, free for members

Painful emotions such as anxiety, depression and anger stop us from being able to truly enjoy our life. Often we feel stuck or paralysed by our negative states of mind and simply do not see any way out.

Through Buddha’s teachings, including teachings on karma, together with meditation practice, we can develop perspectives and skills that allow us to deal positively with even the most difficult situations.  Buddha skillfully explained that our lives will not materially change if we do not develop inner peace and let go of our negative emotions. But to develop such a state of inner peace we need to investigate the actual root of painful emotions. Only through meditation are we able to fully understand how to get rid of negative emotions and to cultivate positive states of mind.In this series,

Resident Teacher Gen Sanden will give us practical methods for dealing with our painful emotions and show us how we are ultimately able to eliminate them all together. Each class includes a teaching and two guided meditations. Everyone is welcome.

December: Exchanging Self with Others

COST:  $15 per class, free for members

“Since cherishing myself is the door to all faults
And cherishing mother beings is the foundation of all good qualities,
I seek your blessings to take as my essential practice
The yoga of exchanging self with others.”

These two verses summarize the actual practice of exchanging self with others. Buddhas have attained enlightenment by abandoning self-cherishing and by cherishing only others, and so they are able to work continuously for others. During this special set of December classes, you will receive teachings and be guided in meditations on the practice of Exchanging Self with Others. This yoga is one of the most important and practical of all of Buddha’s teachings.

By training our mind to be more aware of the happiness and well being of others, and by meditating on this precious mind, we have the ability to change the way we see and interact with others in our daily life and in our world.
