Our Tuesday class offers a practical and easy to understand presentation of Buddha’s teachings which can help us cope with even the most challenging problems.

Each class starts with a short guided breathing meditation, a teaching on how to transform your mind and a concluding meditation to set up your week.

These classes are designed as independent in-person and online “drop-in” classes but greater benefit and understanding naturally arise through coming regularly (see schedule & topics below). Everyone is welcome!

MEDITATIONS FOR BUSY PEOPLE

Happiness hacks: happiness comes from within!

Use these hacks following Buddha’s teachings to discover the freedom to be happy even when things are tough. We all know for instance that when we’re unhappy, sometimes distracting ourselves with something else can give us a bit of a break for a moment. However, using meditation we can make changes to our way of thought that give us inner resilience to be happy without distracting ourselves! Meditation techniques following these themes can produce huge improvements in our life immediately and open the door to a world of inner development that is only possible with meditation.

These classes are based on the free e-book How to Transform Your Life by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche

Sept 7 – Real Happiness and where to find it
Sept 14 – Refocusing to make ourself and others happy
Sept 21 – Motivations that make us happy
Sept 28 – Transforming our understanding of situations with imagination and flexibility

OCTOBER | THE HABITS OF HAPPY PEOPLE

Meditation is a scientific method to transform human nature from bad to good. Everybody needs to be good-natured with a good heart. – Geshe Kelsang Gyatso

Happiness and suffering are states of mind and so their main causes are not to be found outside of the mind. Not knowing this, though, we usually think only about external sources of happiness and worry only about external problems. If we learn to distinguish the inner causes of happiness from the inner causes of unhappiness, we can create the mental habits of truly happy people. Join us this month to learn four important distinctions that will transform your life.

Oct 5 – Thinking beneficial thoughts for everyone’s sake
Oct 12 – Love: the great protector
Oct 19 – Compassion: the supreme good heart
Oct 26 – No class due to the Fall Festival

NOVEMBER | HOW TO BE KIND TO YOURSELF AND OTHERS

Many of our problems arise from being too hard on ourselves and others. Join us for this 5 weeks series and learn:

  • The reason we end up being so hard on everyone
  • How to stop obsessing about being perfect
  • Meditations for transforming our mind and improve our relationships
  • Practical techniques for how to be gentle with ourselves and others.

Each class includes a teaching and two guided meditations.

Nov 2 – Understanding “The problematic mind.”
Nov 9 – The best way to solve our relationship problems
Nov 16 – The Holy Secret – Transforming our mind through wisdom
Nov 23 – Taking Away Suffering
Nov 30 – Giving pure happiness

DECEMBER | LETTING GO OF ANXIETY

Anxiety can be crippling. It can prevent us from doing the things we want to do and connecting with others.
Buddhist meditation helps us become familiar and access naturally happy and strong states of mind. Furthermore, Buddhist wisdom teaches us exactly how to exchange our own burden of problems and worry for compassion and a sense of connection to others. By practising these techniques we don’t just learn to cope, but we thrive and grow, no matter what life hurls our way.

Dec 7 – Understanding the causes of anxiety
Dec 14 – How to develop a flexible mind
