Heart Jewel
A special Guru yoga of Je Tsongkhapa combined with the condensed sadhana of his Dharma Protector and a short 20-minute mediation. This puja includes two practices revealed by the Wisdom Buddha Manjushri. The first is a special Guru yoga in which we visualize our Spiritual Guide as Je Tsongkhapa, who himself is a manifestation of Manjushri.
By relying upon this practice, we can purify negativity, accumulate merit, and receive blessings. In this way, we will naturally accomplish all the realizations of the stages of the path of Sutra and Tantra, and in particular we will attain a very special Dharma wisdom.

Prayer booklets are available in the meditation room and can also be purchased in our bookstore. If you would like to make a monetary tsog offering you can do so by making a donation.
These prayers practices are free from charge and are available by live-stream for members . No previous experience needed and you do not need to be a Buddhist to attend. Everyone is welcome!
What is Wishfulfilling Jewel? An inspiring prayer practice to develop our wisdom, compassion and spiritual protection for the benefit of all living beings.
Wishfulfilling Jewel is the heart essence of Kadampa Buddhism. In the first part we visualize our Spiritual Guide as Je Tsongkhapa and make prayers and requests to purify negativity, accumulate merit, and receive blessings. This prepares our mind for prayers on the Stages of the Path to Enlightenment, and to our Dharma Protector, Dorje Shugden. Through this we can overcome obstacles to our practice and create favorable conditions so that we can nurture and increase our pure Dharma realizations.
This practice includes a special tsog (or food) offering. Traditionally, those who wish, bring a vegetarian food offering.

Powa
Through practicing transference of consciousness, known as ‘powa’ with faith, compassion and concentration we can transfer the consciousness of those recently deceased to a higher rebirth or to the Pure Land of a Buddha. The ceremony can be done either by a group of practitioners or individually on behalf of one or more deceased persons, or countless deceased beings.
By engaging in this practice we also create a great collection of virtue, which will also lead us into the pathway to a Buddha’s Pure Land. Please let us know if a loved one has died and we can do this practice for them.

A Buddhist Perspective on Death and Dying
We are alive, therefore we will die. This is the simplest, most obvious truth of our existence, yet very few of us have really come to terms with this fact.
Buddha gave extensive teachings on death and dying, and how to use an awareness of our death to live a more full and meaningful life. We will explore these topics in this course. Denise will also explain Buddha’s unparalleled insight into the death process, how we can prepare for death, and how we can help others who are dying.

A Pure Life: Mahayana Precepts
A SPECIAL PRACTICE OF KEEPING THE EIGHT MAHAYANA PRECEPTS
Keeping the precepts is a special practice of moral discipline that is performed with bodhichitta motivation. Once a month we engage in this practice beginning our day with the prayer practice A Pure Life at 6:30am in which we take the eight Mahayana precepts.
The essence of the practice is to keep these eight precepts purely for a period of 24 hours. We take vows to abandon: killing; stealing; sexual activity; lying; taking intoxicants; sitting on a high or luxurious throne or seat; wearing jewelry, perfume, or make-up; singing or dancing; and eating more than one special meal between noon and 1pm. More details are given in A Pure Life.
There are many benefits to practicing moral discipline in this way. It helps us solve our day to day problems and creates good karma to take us to a fortunate rebirth in the future. It is a powerful method both for purifying negative karma and accumulating merit or good fortune and brings us closer to the happiness of Enlightenment.

Liberation from Sorrow: Prayers to Buddha Arya Tara
At Kadampa Centers worldwide, the eighth of the month is Tara Day. This month due to the Tara empowerment on the 8th in Aldergrove, we are doing our usual practice in Vancouver on the 9th.
Tara is a female Buddha, whose name means “Rescuer.” She is the embodiment of swift compassion. If we rely upon Tara sincerely and with strong faith, she will protect us from all obstacles and fulfill all our wishes.
Everyone is welcome and invited to join us for Tara’s chanted prayer practice, Liberation from Sorrow.
